MATERIALS • ORIGIN • DISPOSAL
We stay away from plastic and unnecessary gloss to focus on materials that return to the earth.
Here is the breakdown of exactly what arrives at your door.
Wood Pulp, Not Plastic.
Material: NatureFlex™ Cellulose.
The clear sachet looks and seals like plastic, but it is made from renewable wood pulp. It keeps the spices fresh, but is fully Home Compostable.

Disposal:
Step 1: Remove the label.
Step 2: Place bag in garden compost or food waste bin.
Not able to compost? That's ok. Use the general waste.
It feels wrong, but it is still better than plastic.
- If it goes to Landfill: It breaks down slowly (decades) but doesn't release microplastics or toxic petrochemicals.
- If it goes to Incineration (Energy from Waste): It burns cleaner than plastic because it is made from wood pulp (biomass), not oil.
NatureFlex™ film is suitable for:
- Industrial Composting
- Home Composting
- Anaerobic Digestion
- Incineration (thermal recovery)
NatureFlex™ film is NOT suitable for:
- Mechanical recycling (it should not go in with plastic bottle recycling collections)
- Paper recycling (it should not be put in with paper recycling collections)
Made in the UK from compostable cellulose (derived from renewable wood pulp) these bags are a more eco-friendly packaging alternative to current polypropylene, PVC bags. Natureflex film has been accredited biodegradable & compostable to 'BS EN 13432' and 'OK Compost'. These bags are also approved for Anaerobic digestion (ISO 15985) & Marine biodegradation ASTM D6691-09. The film has also been tested to ensure that once composted there are no adverse effects on the plant growth.
What is Cellulose?
- 100% Natural
- Biodegradable & Compostable
- Made in the UK
- Derived from renewable wood pulp.
Cellulose is a substance from a plants cell wall, this can be extracted from waste plant material to produce the bio film used in these bags. Once used, these bags will biodegrade producing CO2 and H2O, these 2 compounds are combined with sunlight and converted into energy by plants in a process called photosynthesis. The resulting tree growth can then be used to produce more bags.
Biodegradable Barrier.
Material: Kraft Paper, Cellulose Film, Starch Film.
Our larger refill bags are designed to protect the volatile oils in the spices. The paper, zipper and film are biodegradable, breaking down under composting conditions.
DISPOSAL INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Cut off zipper (takes longer to degrade).
Step 2: Remove back label, recycle it, and cut pouch into strips.
Step 3: Place in garden compost or food waste bin. Do not recycle.
Our pouches are 100% biodegradable.
If you do not have access to compost then drop it into general waste. Similar to our cellulose sachets it may feel wrong but it isn't as bad as plastic since it's made from renewable materials.
